Burning Water: A Gwynn Reznick Mystery by talented mystery author Inge-Lise Goss, is a masterpiece of suspense with twists and turns galore.

The action packs a wallop as a horrific murder occurs at the onset of the story and kept this reader intensely curious to learn how the murderer was going to be caught – with Gwynn Reznick in the persona of Diane, playing a part-time accountant for the H&E Oil Company where the ‘accident’ took place. She takes another case for the benefit of a company attorney, although her longtime employer and love interest Rubin from R.D.’s Investigation Company, cautions her to tread lightly.

Gwynn is staying at the local hotel owned by her aunt and uncle, coincidentally where other employees of H&E Oil live. The locals are having issues with livestock, and with a slew of other investigators/attorneys on all these semi-related cases – nothing is as it seems in this riveting story, as well as the rest of the unsavory characters this reader found totally wary of trust.

When Holly shows up under the guise of Lara, ‘Diane’s’ BFF from school, it’s apparent she’s been sent to help Gwynne unearth the truth and to also protect her from her own devices – especially because of Ruben’s constant concern. And does the action stop there? NO! Add poisoning, embezzling, and blackmail to this mix, and this story’s ready to implode.

As the clues kept adding up, though, by the time I neared the end, the voice of “I didn’t see that one coming,” kept tickling my brain. I loved how Ms. Goss has perfected the art of complex teasing during a tale – coaxing the reader along by dropping crumbs here, then there, and leading the reader astray – or not.

Gosh, what a fun read! Five golden stars for the delightful tale Burning Water – and for keeping me in the dark, just when I thought I had it figured out.

This book starts with a phenomenal action scene and the author holds the intensity throughout the book.
When an H&E Oil Company employee’s death is ruled as accidental, not everybody buys that determination.

Gwynn isn’t the most experienced private investigator, but she still goes undercover at H&E Oil Company as an accountant to help untangle the mystery of the murder.

Add a couple of missing employees and attempted murder and the plot thickens.

When the numbers don’t jive, the intensity cranks up and a couple of others from the investigation firm in which Gwynn works are sent to help and watch over her. Gwynn works her way through, unraveling the clues and the mystery until it is solved but not without some page-turning twists and turns and some ballsy moves on her part along the way.

I highly recommend this book.

Disclosure: I discovered Inge-Lise Goss’s work when both of us got invited to take part in Love Under Fire, a boxed set. Since then, I became a great fan of her writing.

Gwynn Reznick is at it again! This novel contains some 'super sleuthing' by Gwynn and, in addition to the mystery of a murder, the author has written a novel containing a lot of excitement and thrills.

Starting with a man engulfed in flames, the action intensifies from there. The H & E Oil Company offers employment for Gwynn as she attempts to assist in a mystery in the office environment. What is going on with this oil company? Lots of missing details to begin with but one thing is for certain and that is no matter what , the oil must keep flowing!

The author writes a skillful murder mystery which offers several solutions in this 'who dun it'. One by one, the clues are unraveled and the murder is solved.

Characters are well defined and definitely contains a multi-level plot...The addition of strong female characters enhances the story, as well...Rosie, the safe cracker, did entertain me at the end of the novel...Would like to meet her in person!

Lots of thrills, action and a really intriguing mystery will keep the reader entertained until the last page is turned.

Most highly recommended.

Burning Water is a suspenseful read that starts with a horrific murder that’s ends up being ruled as a tragic accident.
Gwynn Reznick goes undercover at H&E Oil Company to figure out what really happened that deadly night. Through her boss’s unsanctioned snooping, she finds there’s more to the case than meets the eye when other disappearances surface. Gwynn soon begins to unravel a sinister plot among a group of employees.
This is a captivating read that kept me glued to the pages as the pace quickens and danger surrounds Gwynn while she searches for the killer among her lists of suspects that keeps growing. Great read! Highly recommended. Really enjoy this series!
